LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de León has his sights set on the mayor's office.

De León is the former leader of the California State Senate and says his life experience helps him understand the needs of Angelenos.

He kicked off his campaign in September and joined ABC7's Marc Brown to discuss why he is running for mayor of L.A.

De León talked about his plans to solve the city's homeless crisis and his stance on vaccine mandates for city workers.

With Mayor Eric Garcetti not eligible to run again in 2022, the candidates will run in the primary set for June and the top two finishers square off on Election Day on Nov. 8, 2022.
