ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- Thousands were served a free Thanksgiving dinner outside the Honda Center in Anaheim Thursday, continuing a tradition that began over 20 years ago.

This is the 28th year La Casa Garcia and the We Give Thanks Foundation extended their tables and hearts to the community. Thirty-five-hundred pounds of potatoes, thousands of pies and more than 600 turkeys were part of the meal.

Frank Garcia founded the event, which is the largest free Thanksgiving Day feast in the country. Anyone who is homeless, in need of a meal or even a little warmth during the holidays is invited to attend, according to Garcia.

"It's been real special because after we feed the 10-15,000 people, I feel so good 'cause I do it every year," Garcia said. He started the tradition in the parking lot of his restaurant.

"We started at La Casa Garcia yesterday for 3,000 people, and now we're in the Honda Center and it's awesome with all the volunteers that we got," he said.

At least 15,000 attended the event, which ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Honda Center is located at 2695 E. Katella Avenue. For more information, visit http://www.wegivethanksinc.org.
