LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person has died after shots were fired near the Westin Hotel near Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday. Two attempted-robbery suspects were involved. One suspect was fatally shot.
The shooting took place outside of a medical marijuana dispensary called Nature's Cure Dispensary on the 5400 block of Century Boulevard at 12:18 p.m.
Police said two suspects tried to rob the dispensary at about 12:45 p.m. Investigators say one suspect opened fire on a security guard, and the guard fired back. The guard was injured, according to the LAPD. The deceased suspect was not immediately identified.
Police were searching for a suspect wearing a brown baseball cap, beige shirt and green pants. He is believed to have fled in a black BMW.
"One of the suspects was struck by gunfire. That suspect was a male black that fled westbound and later expired due to his injuries," said LAPD Captain Brian Johnson. "Second suspect, all we know is he was a male black that fled in a dark-colored vehicle, possibly black, westbound from the location, and we have no other information at this time."
Century Boulevard was briefly closed between La Cienega and Aviation boulevards. The roadway reopened to traffic at about 2:30 p.m.
