DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Auto Show is not only for car enthusiasts who love flashy sports cars and convertibles. Some of the big unveilings at this year's event have to do with family-oriented vehicles.
The L.A. Auto Show is open to the public from Nov. 21-30 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Eyewitness News got a sneak peak before the doors officially opened.
Ford will be introducing their newest Explorer. The 2016 model features smart USB charging capabilities, front and rear cameras with 180-degree views and premium trim for the first time.
Ford is really banking on the Explorer, because among their lineup of SUVs, the company says the Explorer name is still a strong one.
"We've been the best-selling crossover or utility for 25 years, and you can argue, that brought SUV to the masses here in the U.S.," said Jim Farley with Ford Motor Co.
Another longtime name in the family car arena is Volvo. The XC90 first came out in 2004. It's finally getting a complete makeover. The all-new 2016 model will be on display at the L.A. Auto Show, along with a plug-in hybrid model.
Volvo will also be showing the V60 Cross Country, a mix between an SUV and a wagon.
The XC90 is slated to go on sale next May.
