SoCal to see red-hot temps, excessive heat warning Wednesday
Southern California will see a prolonged stretch of hot temperatures, with some parts experiencing triple-digit heat this week.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A prolonged heat wave returns to Southern California, with temperatures in the 90s and some areas experiencing triple-digit heat this week.

Many cooling centers are scheduled to be open Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Los Angeles.

An excessive heat warning is in effect for the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys through Thursday evening. A large swath of the Inland Empire will be under a heat advisory, while a red flag warning will be in place for the area surrounding Acton.

Wednesday is expected to be the hottest day of the week.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles and Orange counties can expect a hot and sunny day, with a high of 100. Temperatures will drop back to the low 90s Thursday.

The valleys and Inland Empire on Wednesday will hit a high of 105. They will see temperatures in the 100s all week.

Beaches on Wednesday will be cloudy in the morning, with a high of around 76 by the afternoon.

Mountains will be sunny and warm, with a high of 81 and temperatures in the 40s overnight. Smoke from nearby wildfires will bring hazy conditions.

The desert areas can expect a high of 104 Wednesday. Those areas will be in the triple digits the entire week. Palm Springs on Wednesday could reach 112 degrees.
