MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Manhattan Beach officials have lifted the city's ban on pier fishing, which had been put into effect last month after a shark attack.

The City Council imposed the temporary ban to protect the safety of swimmers and surfers.

New city regulations are in place prohibiting the use of steel, metal or braided leader lines. The city is prohibiting large hooks often used to catch sharks, as well as using more than two hooks on a single line. Cleaning fish on the pier is also not allowed.

Swimmer Steven Robles, 50, was bitten in the chest by a juvenile great white shark that had been hooked by a fishing line on July 5. Robles said at a City Council meeting last month that his scars were starting to heal.
