HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Oscar-winning actor and heartthrob Matthew McConaughey received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Monday.

McConaughey was joined by Christopher Nolan, who directed McConaughey's latest film, "Interstellar," and Don Phillips, who cast him in his film debut, "Dazed and Confused", as well as actresses Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway.

"Matthew is a terrific, terrific movie star," Nolan said. "Matthew is someone who has never taken his audience for granted, never taken any of his success for granted, he works harder than anybody I know, and deserves everything that has happened to him."

The 2,534th star on the Walk of Fame is the latest in a series of honors the 45-year-old actor has received this year, which also include an Oscar and Emmy nomination.

"This is a great moment in my career and my life," McConaughey said. "This industry has given me a lot. It's given me a chance to live out some dreams I didn't even know I had, dreams I'm still finding along the way."

Revealing that he only saw two or three films before he was 18, McConaughey said he didn't realize acting would turn out to be his career.

"It's something that I learned to love, and I'm learning to love even more," he said.

McConaughey earned a best actor Oscar in March for his portrayal of AIDS patient Ron Woodroof in "Dallas Buyers Club."

He also received an Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Louisiana State Police detective Rust Cohle in HBO's "True Detective."

McConaughey's other films include "Magic Mike," "Mud," "The Wolf of Wall Street," "The Lincoln Lawyer," "Tropic Thunder," "We Are Marshall," "Amistad," "Contact," "A Time to Kill," "Lone Star," "The Wedding Planner," "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," "Failure to Launch," "Fool's Gold" and "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past."
