MMA fighter Jason 'Mayhem' Miller in custody after Mission Viejo standoff

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (KABC) -- Mixed-martial-arts fighter Jason "Mayhem" Miller was arrested after a tense hours-long SWAT standoff at a Mission Viejo house on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say deputies were serving an arrest warrant at the home in the 26000 block of Avenida Calidad at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The warrant was for a domestic violence and stalking case.

When deputies tried to take Miller into custody, the 33-year-old ran back into his house and refused to come out of his home. He then apparently began live-tweeting the situation, saying "I have not committed any crime, but yet I am forced here."

"I WISH YOU NO HARM. I respect the Police, but this is overkill, for something that would be settled with one piece of paperwork," he said in another tweet.

Deputies were trying to serve an arrest warrant related to alleged domestic violence and stalking. Authorities did not say who the victim or victims may be. They said Miller would not comply and barricaded himself in his home.

"We set up a perimeter around the house and have for the last several hours attempted to make contact with Mr. Miller and try to bring this to a peaceful resolution," said Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock.

The standoff ended at about 2:15 p.m. after SWAT officers placed a device on his front door that blew off the locks. Miller surrendered at the back of the home.

Miller was arrested on an outstanding felony arrest warrant for domestic violence, stalking and violation of a court order, as well as obstructing/delaying a peace officer resulting from Thursday's incident. He was last due in court Sept. 8 for a pretrial hearing, but he was declared a fugitive and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Deputies say they've had several run-ins with Miller in the past. In 2012 he was found naked inside a Mission Viejo church. He was accused of vandalism, but the charges were dismissed.
