MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A 42-year-old bail agent was shot and killed at a Moreno Valley hotel while trying to capture a wanted suspect, officials say.

Bail bondsman James Black was trying to capture 41-year-old Chad James Green, who has an extensive criminal record and was wanted most recently for a felony burglary case.

Green allegedly shot Black Tuesday night at the Xola Hotel in Moreno Valley, in the 24000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard.

Authorities were called to the scene around 7:15 p.m. on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found Black suffering from a gunshot wound, the spokesperson said. The Lake Elsinore resident was transported to a hospital, where he died.

The Sheriff's Department later confirmed the man being sought in the killing is Green, who is seen in photos published on an unofficial wanted poster.

Green has an extensive criminal history, including felony convictions and an arrest warrant had been issued for him in June in connection with a felony burglary case.

Green, a Riverside resident, is described as white, 6 feet 2 inches tall, 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He has multiple tattoos, including some on his arms that depict skulls, a swastika, an eagle on his abdomen and a Viking.

He is described as armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is advised not to approach him, but to call 911. Anyone with information about his whereabouts or the shooting can also call the sheriff's homicide tip line at (951) 955-2777.

A previous version of this story said the shooting victim was not working as a bail agent at the time of the shooting. Officials later provided updated information indicating he was in fact working to apprehend the suspect.
