2 Cal State Fullerton students stabbed near campus

FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Two Cal State Fullerton students were stabbed near campus, and the search is on for their attacker.

The students, described as men in their 20s, were attacked around 12:25 a.m. Sunday in an alley near 2117 Teri Place, according to authorities. The incident occurred near the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house.

One victim was stabbed in the chest, and the other was stabbed in the arm. The men were transported to an area hospital. They have since been released and are expected to recover.

"I heard a lot of girls yelling, freaking out, saying, 'The guy has a knife, he stabbed my friend,'" recalled Chuck Saxon, who lives near the crime scene.

The alley where the stabbing occurred was full of beer bottles and plastic cups Monday morning. Neighbors say the garbage is from a weekend of wild parties along what students call "fraternity row."

"Every house down this alley, just about, was having a party, and this whole alley was full. It was hard for cars to drive through, it was just a crowd of people," Saxon described.

Police hope information from witnesses will help them find the suspect, who ran from the scene after the stabbing.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male, approximately 18 to 20 years old, around 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing around between 160 and 175 pounds. He was seen wearing a baseball-style cap, a dark shirt and dark pants. Police did not yet know whether the suspect was a student.

Authorities said they do not believe the incident was a robbery situation. Investigators are reviewing evidence, including video from the scene, to determine what led to the stabbing.

As Cal State Fullerton begins classes on Monday, the university released the following statement to Eyewitness News:

"The University's primary concern at this time is with the continued recovery of our students and with supporting law enforcement in their investigation."

"Our Greek community is like very tight, that's why my hearts and prayers go out to the guys who were affected. I don't personally know them, but I hope they're doing alright," said Jon Comouche, a senior at the school.
