FONTANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 74-year-old woman was attacked in the driveway of her home and had her purse stolen in Fontana Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the 8600 block of Blanchard Avenue on a robbery call around 10 a.m. The victim had pulled into her driveway and was exiting her car when she was attacked.

The suspect approached her from behind and hit her in the face with an unknown object. The retired teacher temporarily blacked out and when she awoke, she noticed her purse was gone.

"I only know that he kept hitting me three or four times because when I had flashbacks I could feel it," she said.

She was transported to a nearby hospital with a serious face injury. She ended up with a softball sized bruise on the side of her face.

She was not able to provide a description of her assailant. She is speaking out so that the suspect can be caught and so that other people will not be put in a similar situation.

"I don't understand people like that. They have a different mentality than I have or something because I can't even picture myself beating on someone like that for any reason whatsoever," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fontana Police Department anonymously at (909) 356-TIPS.
