FONTANA, Calif. (KABC) -- An off-duty Fontana police officer was killed in a motorcycle accident in the Angeles National Forest Tuesday night.

Thomas Chamberlin, 26, was riding on Highway 39 north of Azusa at 8:25 p.m. when the crash occurred.

Police say Chamberlin was not married and had no children. He is survived by his parents Tom and Guadalupe Chamberlin.

Chamberlin graduated from Diamond Bar High School in 2006, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in Iraq from 2008 to 2009 and in Afghanistan in 2010, and was honorably discharged in 2011.

He later attended Cal State Fullerton, Fontana police said in a press release. In June 2013, he was hired by the Fontana Police Department.

He graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Police Academy in December 2013.

Chamberlin had notified the department that donations be made in his memory to the Catholic Answers Charity in San Diego, prior to his death.

The accident remains under investigation.
