PORT HUENEME, Calif. (KABC) -- A Camarillo mother has been arrested after slamming her car into a tree in the Port Hueneme area Wednesday, killing one of her children.

The accident happened on Pacific Coast Highway at Los Posas Road just after 7 p.m. Authorities say 33-year-old Latoya Najar had her three children in the 2002 Ford Mustang, along with another adult female. Najar's sister said they were returning home after spending a day at the beach.

The car was only equipped with four seatbelts, and Najar's 7-year-old son Dillon Najar was not wearing a seatbelt. He was declared dead at the scene.

One child was not injured, and a 12-year-old boy received a broken arm. A 33-year-old woman in the car suffered multiple fractures and facial injuries.

"If the child was restrained, the child may have likely survived the collision," CHP Officer Steve Reid said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Najar showed signs of intoxication at the scene of the accident. She was booked at Ventura County Jail and charged with vehicular manslaughter, DUI and child endangerment.
