SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 21-year-old Santa Ana man was arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap a 16-year-old girl walking home from school.
Police said the victim and her friend were on their way home from Valley High School Monday afternoon, when the suspect, Jesus Edu Bahena, drove up to them near the intersection of Center Street and McFadden Avenue.
According to authorities, Bahena, who had two other males in the car with him, rolled down the window and yelled at the victim, demanding that she get into his car.
Bahena kept yelling profanities at the victim, but she and her friend just kept walking.
Police said Bahena initially drove off, but later returned to the victim's location alone. He parked his car on the sidewalk and exited his vehicle. Police said Bahena confronted the victim, telling her again to get in his car.
When she refused, investigators said Bahena grabbed the girl and tried to force her into his car. During the struggle, police said he began kissing the girl on her face and lips. The victim kicked Bahena and was able to break free. Both girls then fled the scene and took shelter in a local church.
Later that week on Thursday afternoon, Santa Ana School Police received a tip that Bahena was parked near Valley High School. Officers pulled him over, and authorities said he was positively identified by the victim as her assailant.
Bahena was arrested at the scene and booked into the Santa Ana Jail. He was charged with attempted kidnapping and sexual battery. Police said he does have an arrest record.
