Valentine's Day balloons knock out power to thousands in South LA
Crews with Southern California Edison stated Valentine's Day balloons caused a power outage in South Los Angeles, leaving more than 5,000 customers without electricity.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KABC) -- Southern California Edison said a massive power outage in the Southland Monday evening was caused by Valentine's Day balloons.

SoCal Edison officials said a bundle of mylar balloons knocked out power in South L.A. after they hit power lines near Normandie Avenue and W. 104th Street.

More than 5,000 customers were left without power and some wires were reported down in some areas.

Residents were urged to not approach downed wires and to call 911 to alert authorities if downed wires are spotted.

Power was restored around 4:45 a.m., SoCal Edison officials said.
