LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Actress Nicole Kidman's father, clinical psychologist Antony Kidman, died in Singapore Friday, according to authorities.
"Nicole and her family are in shock by the sudden death of her father," Nicole Kidman's rep said in a statement. "She appreciates the outpouring of support and kindly requests privacy during this very difficult time. Thank you."
Tony Kidman was reportedly in Singapore to visit his other daughter, Antonia, and her family. During his visit, the psychologist reportedly fell. He was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital earlier Friday, but representatives at the hospital would not release any more details.
Singapore police did not immediately identify Kidman by his name, but said in a statement that a man in his 80s was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Police said they are investigating the accident as an "unnatural death."
Representatives with the University of Technology in Sydney, where Kidman worked as a researched and practitioner for 43 years, confirmed his death.
"Tony has contributed greatly - as a colleague, as a researcher, and as a health practitioner," University of Technology in Sydney Vice Chancellor Attila Brungs said in a statement. "Tony will be missed by all at UTS."
Nicole Kidman's father and her mother, Janelle, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
