Ontario barricade suspect arrested following police shooting

ONTARIO, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting amid an hours-long barricade situation in Ontario was arrested early Monday morning.

Ontario police arrested the suspect around 4 a.m. in the 900 block of West Vesta Street.

It all started when officers responded to an incomplete 911 call from the area at 8:36 p.m. Sunday. An argument was heard in the background during the call. When dispatch called back, the female caller said "her husband had been drinking and was causing a disturbance," Ontario police said in a statement.

Upon arrival, a male suspect, identified as 44-year-old Faafetai Tai Niusila of Ontario, came out of the house and pointed a semi-automatic rifle at officers. Two officers fired their weapons at the suspect, who fled back into the house.

Niusila then fled to a neighboring home and refused to surrender for nearly seven hours. No one was injured, but surrounding residents were evacuated from the area.

The suspect's weapon was found in the yard.

Niusila was booked at the West Valley Detention Center on attempted murder of a peace officer and assault with a deadly weapon.
