Teen with Down syndrome voted homecoming queen at Anaheim high school

PLACENTIA, Calif. (KABC) -- Sean Boots wore a big smile in every photo at his high school's homecoming dance on Saturday night because he was the lucky guy who had homecoming queen April Clark as his date.

The students at Esperanza High School in Anaheim nominated April, who has Down syndrome, to be on the homecoming court. When the votes were tallied Friday night, she received the most votes and was crowed homecoming queen.

"It was just so amazing to see all these people clapping and voting for my sister and cheering for her. It just made April's day for her to be queen, it's been April's dream," her sister, Missy, said.

Before being honored by her classmates, April was overwhelmed by the love and support she and Sean received on social media.

April's sister tweeted a video of Sean unveiling a banner asking April to be his date for the dance. It's been retweeted more than 43,000 times.

"It just really validates that Sean and April, and children, adults with special needs are important. That they are valued," Sean's mother, Michelle Boots, said.

A man who doesn't know Sean or April was so touched by their story that he decided to donate a stretch limo so they could attend the dance in style.

"Sean is the cutest guy. He asked me to go to homecoming, and he gave me tears of joy," April said.
