Penguins dress up in Santa Claus costumes at New York aquarium
RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK -- Kids often dress up when they go see Santa Claus at Christmastime, but what would you expect penguins to wear?
The Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center in Riverhead, New York released a video this week of African penguins dressed in their holiday best.
Aquarium workers dressed the penguins named Pam, Angela, Sheldon and Fuzz in red-and-white suits for their visit with Santa Claus.
The staff said the penguins seemed to enjoy the dress-up sessions, especially Fuzz. They alternated between sprinting around and just exploring.
"It's something a little different from their norm, so it's good for them to get this opportunity to get out of exhibit and expand their horizons a bit," one of the workers said, adding that only the penguins comfortable with dressing up participated.
Any penguins that seemed to get stressed during the activity were returned to their habitat and given a snack.
