PICO RIVERA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect who was apparently doing "doughnuts" in a pickup truck at Smith Park was taken into custody following a deputy-involved shooting in Pico Rivera Monday.
Authorities responded to the area of Rosemead Boulevard and Mines Avenue at 8:34 a.m. after receiving a call about a man doing doughnuts on the baseball field.
Deputies ordered the suspect to stop, but authorities say he refused and instead side-swiped a deputy's patrol car. They continued to order him to stop, but he continued to refuse and rammed a deputy's vehicle twice, sheriff's officials said.
A deputy-involved shooting happened at that time. According to the sheriff's department, the male suspect was not struck by gunfire.
The suspect then got out of the truck and ran toward deputies, so they tried using a Taser, the sheriff's department said. When the Taser did not work, sheriff's officials say a "violent struggle ensued" to take the suspect into custody. He was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
Three deputies sustained minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Anyone with information is urged to call the L.A. County Sheriff's Department's Pico Rivera Station at (562) 949-2421.
