Bodycam video shows deadly LAPD shooting of man who fatally stabbed his father

LAKE BALBOA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Newly-released body camera footage shows the moment Los Angeles police officers shot and killed a man who stabbed his father to death in Lake Balboa.

The deadly incident unfolded last month when the suspect's mother called 911 and mentioned her son, Joshua Bonilla, had schizophrenia.

Officers arrived at the home on Valerio Street and spoke with Bonilla's brother. They then went inside the home where they found Bonilla stabbing his father, Elias, with a pair of scissors.

Police say when he refused officer commands, they shot him.

Los Angeles police shot and killed a man who was assaulting his father with scissors at a home in Lake Balboa, authorities said. Both men were pronounced dead.

Bonilla was hit by gunfire and then put into handcuffs. He and his father were given medical aid but were both eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

The scissors and a knife were recovered at the scene.

Police say Bonilla had a history of violence against his family.
