DUI suspect shears fire hydrant, runs from police in Fullerton, video shows

FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspected DUI driver set off a geyser of water in Fullerton before trying to outrun police.

The driver sheared off a fire hydrant, crashed into a pole, then got out of the vehicle and took off running from police. A witness pointed officers in the right direction.

Shortly after, they located the soaking wet driver nearby and said he tried to run again - to no avail.

He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries, and then booked for driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
