IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- The FBI descended on a home in a gated community in Irvine Wednesday after police responded to a report of suspicious activity earlier in the week.
Officers initially responded to the scene Monday when a landlord reported "suspicious circumstances" at a residence near Cartwheel and Iluna, according to the Irvine Police Department.
When the Orange County Fire Authority was called to assist in the investigation, police said they found items in the home that "required further investigation."
The FBI was then notified and took over the investigation. The federal agency said its Evidence Response Team and Hazardous Evidence Response Team responded to the home at the request of the OCFA.
AIR7 was over the scene Wednesday when an FBI hazmat team carried out their investigation at the home.
"The FBI continues to work this matter jointly with the Irvine Police Department, the Orange County Fire Authority and the Orange County Sheriff's Department," the FBI said in a statement. "There is no known threat to public safety. As this is an ongoing investigation, we are not able to provide additional information at this time."
Police said no evacuations have been ordered.
