
PIÑON HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- A brush fire that erupted Saturday afternoon in Piñon Hills threatened nearby structures before firefighters stopped its forward progress, authorities said.
The Fremont Fire was reported around 1:40 p.m. in the area of Fremontia Road and Crystal Aire Road, according to Cal Fire.
An initial report estimated the fire at 2 to 3 acres, but it later grew to 26. Cal Fire said it had the potential to spread to 50 acres.
In an update posted just after 5 p.m., Cal Fire reported forward progress of the fire was stopped. The fire is 5% contained as of Saturday evening.
Cal Fire said one firefighter suffered heat-related injuries and was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
A detached garage was burned during the blaze.
Firefighters battled the blaze from the ground and with help from multiple air tankers.
It's unknown what caused the fire.
