Phone scammers impersonating Hermosa Beach Police Department members

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Hermosa Beach police are warning residents about a new phone scam that involves people impersonating members of the police department.

According to police, scammers are spoofing the department's official phone number and calling people about warrants, bail or requests for payment.

The department stressed that it will never call you to demand money, ask for personal information over the phone or ask you to provide gift card numbers.

Anybody who receives a suspicious call like that is advised to hang up immediately and contact the department's non-emergency number at (310) 524-2750.
