HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- An investigation is underway on Monday following the death of a man who fell into a shaft at a construction site in northeast Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on social media that the incident occurred in the 15800 block of Sheldon Ridge Way about 15 miles northeast of Houston, around 7:40 a.m.
The sheriff's office confirmed to ABC affiliate KTRK that the 47-year-old man was involved in an altercation with his co-worker near the area before he fell.
The Sheldon Fire Department said it responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Officials said it is unclear if the man was pushed or fell down the 30- to 40-foot shaft.
HCSO said that the co-worker and others were detained and were being interviewed by homicide detectives.
