LA mayoral race tightens, new poll shows

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The race for Los Angeles mayor is tightening significantly, according to a new poll, and it's shaking up the campaign trail as incumbent Mayor Karen Bass fights for re-election.

The latest UC Berkeley-L.A. Times poll of likely voters has the three candidates at the top almost within the margin of error so anything could happen leading up to Election Day. The top two candidates will move on in the race.

In the poll, Mayor Bass is at 26%. Right behind her is Nithya Raman at 25%. Then Spencer Pratt at 22%.

The margin of error for this poll is 3% so this race is wide open with a clear top three.

Meanwhile, democratic socialist Rae Huang is at 9%, certainly taking votes away from Raman, the other DSA candidate in the race. Then at 5% is Adam Miller, who many believe is taking votes away from Bass.

Ten percent of voters in the poll are still undecided.

There's also some suspense in the race for California governor, though not as much as in L.A. According to new numbers from the Public Policy Institute of California, Democrat Xavier Becerra is leading the field at 23%, with Republican Steve Hilton coming in at 20%.

ABC7's Marc Brown and political reporter Josh Haskell will join reporters from our sister stations in San Francisco and Fresno for an election roundtable ahead of the Tuesday primary. You can watch that discussion Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on ABC7.com or wherever you stream ABC7 Los Angeles.
