NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A knife-wielding suspect was shot and killed by police in North Hollywood Saturday night after charging at officers.

Los Angeles police responded to the 1600 block of Stagg Street around 11:25 p.m. following reports of a man throwing rocks at a car.

"The residents came home and discovered an individual in their yard throwing boulders," said Sgt. Albert Gonzalez of LAPD Media Relations.

Responding officers say the suspect started throwing rocks at them when they arrived.

Officers tried to subdue him with bean bags, but police say the suspect "produced at least one knife and charged at officers." That's when police opened fire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

No officers were injured.
