VICTORVILLE, Calif. (KABC) -- Two teenage girls were killed in a multi-car crash in Victorville Friday night, authorities said.
A yellow Chevrolet Camaro and a black Dodge Charger were speeding when they crashed into an Acura carrying the two teens near Ridgecrest Road and Elmwood Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The impact caused the Acura to split in half, killing the girls who were seated in the driver and passenger seats.
CHP said the driver of the Camaro fled the area on foot, while the driver of the Dodge remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
One of the victims was identified in a GoFundMe campaign as Maddalyn Dailey. Another GoFundMe identified the second victim by her first name, Isabell. Both were seniors at Sultana High School.
"The loss of these bright young individuals leaves a profound void across our campuses and community," the Hesperia Unified School District said in a statement. "The entire HUSD family mourns the loss, and our most sincere thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences go out to the families, friends, and loved ones of the students we lost."
Dustin Dailey, the father of Maddalyn, expressed frustration over what he described as a dangerous road.
"I don't know who I need to talk to or even where to start, but I'm going to do everything in my power to try to get this insane death trap of a road turned into a safety corridor," he said.
CHP said it's unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
