WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A starring role on the big screen is the Hollywood dream. But in this case, the screen is a billboard above Sunset Boulevard.

Inside that billboard is an enclosed space built to look like a home - with a real man inside who's been surprising pedestrians and drivers passing by.

"I thought it was like an AI bot or something that was just moving inside the billboard," said Noel Braham. "So when I stopped, I'm like is that a real (person)? And then he started to wave and I'm like... that's a real person!"

The billboard promotes a new Netflix sci-fi thriller called "The Last House."

The film's plot is about a family mysteriously trapped inside their home. In some scenes, the frightened family uses a whiteboard to communicate with neighbors.

But the man in the billboard has been drawing smiles as he waves at the people who stop and stare, dancing at times and writing friendly messages.

"I love the little signs. He's like very playful, he's very interactive, so lots of fun," said Madeline Rhom, of Hollywood.

The billboard has been attracting a lot of attention, with many heading to Sunset Boulevard after seeing posts on social media.

When ABC7 arrived, there was only one way to "interview" the man attracting so much attention.

When asked via whiteboard about the view, his response was "spectacular."

Numerous people stopped by throughout the evening Thursday to snap photos of the man in the billboard.

"That's crazy!," said Kevin Wong. "But I love the marketing, man, it's very smart. It's pretty hot today, too, so I'm wondering if there's an air conditioner up there."

And while he's living in the "spotlight," will he get any sleep?

It wasn't surprising that he said "no."

The man is expected to stay up there for a few more days.
