Evacuation warning lifted after Castaic fire shuts down some 5 Freeway lanes

CASTAIC, Calif. (KABC) -- A brush fire in Castaic on Monday afternoon prompted a temporary evacuation warning for a nearby mobile home park and forced the closure of multiple northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway.

The fire was reported at about 4:09 p.m. near the northbound 5 Freeway and Templin Highway, according to Cal Fire. A semi-truck carrying vehicles caught fire and flames spread to nearby brush.

A Sigalert was issued as multiple northbound lanes of the freeway were shut down because of the fire, causing a major traffic backup. Some lanes later reopened.

Officials with the Angeles National Forest initially said that the blaze had burned 15 acres and was spreading at a moderate rate. Just before 6:20 p.m., officials said the fire had grown to 25 acres and was 46% contained.

As firefighters worked to contain the blaze, the Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatched fire engines to a nearby mobile home park as a precaution.

An evacuation warning was issued for 133 homes in the Paradise Ranch Mobile Home Park. The warning was lifted a few hours later.
