SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- The San Fernando Brigade is spreading the word with motorists above the 101 freeway.
This local volunteer group goes to the 101 freeway four days a week to share positive messages with 40,000 motorists on their daily commute.
"We're their wake-up call," said Alise Ivy, leader of the San Fernando Brigade. "We do a lot of activism, from phone banking to canvassing to writing postcards. But I really feel like for us, this is the most impactful thing we can do."
Signs that read "CA Fights Back: Yes Vote in Nov." and messages regarding the ICE raids can be seen. No matter how early or busy the freeway is, motorists wave and honk their horns to support the cause.
This is more than just donating their time to spread a PSA to the 101 and 405 junction, but a way to give back.
"I wanted to do something, and I thought this is the best way to get the word out," said Sarah Banks, activist and member of the San Fernando Brigade.
Members of the volunteer group were eager to express themselves and found that protesting important messages was a great way to do it.
"We always have our important message up," said Ivy.
"But up on the bridge, we have music playing, and we come to this with joy in our hearts."
