Powerball jackpot soars to $1.7B after no big winner

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- A lucky lottery player in the Inland Empire is nearly $1 million richer after the latest Powerball drawing.

No one won the massive jackpot Wednesday, but a ticket that matched five of six numbers was sold at a Stater Bros. Market on Arlington Avenue in Riverside, according to the California Lottery. That ticket is worth $984,594.

Another ticket that matched five numbers was sold at an Albertsons in Bakersfield.

The Powerball jackpot now stands at an estimated $1.7 billion. The next drawing will be Saturday night, with the prize expected to be the third-largest in U.S. lottery history.

Since May 31, there have been 41 straight drawings without a big winner.
