Rock thrown through Sawtelle church window in latest vandalism case

SAWTELLE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Sawtelle church is assessing damage after someone threw a large rock through one of its windows, triggering a burglary alarm early this morning.

The incident happened at Faith Tabernacle Church on Purdue Avenue where shattered glass littered the floor after the rock broke through the window.

Jessie Smith, the church's lead pastor, said the alarm alerted authorities, and police responded to the scene.

He said nothing was stolen but noted this is not the first time the church has been targeted.

"When I arrived, I didn't even know that was the rock that they used, but the police told me they used the rock to break the window, and then when I got here, I saw that rock and I was like, 'That's a pretty good-sized rock,'" said Smith. "It's unfortunate that it keeps happening, but I hope it stops. I don't know if it's the same person. If it is ... please stop. It's getting very expensive."

Smith said the church has turned over its security video to police as the investigation continues.

No further details were immediately released. The incident remains under investigation.
