DOWNEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A Silver Alert was canceled after a 75-year-old woman who had been reported missing was found, the Downey Police Department said.

Carmen Bird "was located at an area hospital where she is being treated. The family thanks everyone who helped in the search," authorities said in a Monday statement. No other details were released.

Bird had last been seen near Lakewood Boulevard and Rose Avenue around 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol, which issued the alert on behalf of the Downey Police Department.

The Silver Alert program was established by the CHP to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearances of elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.
