Toyota's RAV4 gets full redesign, standard hybrid power for 2026

You should soon be seeing the newest RAV4 compact SUV all over the place, a model that's been a huge success for Toyota for many, many years.

"RAV4 is Toyota's most important vehicle in the North American market," said Ed Kim, senior analyst at automotive consulting firm AutoPacific.

It's seen a steady climb in popularity, as it sits in the single most popular vehicle category: compact crossover SUVs, which dominate the automotive market year after year.

Just how popular is Toyota's entry? Last year they sold over 479,000 of them. The RAV4's best sales year ever.

Now, an all-new 2026 RAV4 is hitting showrooms, and the success should continue, if Toyota has made the right kind of improvements to keep customers coming in.

"From Toyota's point of view, they have to be very careful how they evolve the vehicle because it's a tremendously popular vehicle," noted analyst Ed Kim. "People love it."

The redesigned 2026 RAV4 is priced from $33,350 to $44,750 before options, depending on trim level. There's new styling inside and out, a bit more tech, and a bit more variety.

Want the rugged version for some off-roading? The Woodland covers that niche. Or new this year, the GR Sport model, from Toyota's performance division. Yes, a sporty sport utility vehicle in both handling and looks, and there's even a rear spoiler atop the hatch.

There's no doubt Toyota's the leader in gas-electric hybrid vehicles, and for a while now you've been able to get a RAV4 as a hybrid model. For this new generation, every one of them is a hybrid.

It only makes sense, as Toyota's betting big on more hybrid power in the coming years. This popular crossover is merely the latest model in their lineup to go all-hybrid, following the Sienna minivan, Crown sedan and SUV, the Camry sedan, and of course the Prius.

"This is just a win-win, because the RAV4's already the most popular vehicle out there, aside from the pickup trucks, and now every single one of them gets a hybrid powertrain standard. And at 40 miles per gallon-plus, what's not to like?," said Ed Kim of AutoPacific.

And also available, plug-in hybrid power for some gas-free driving on your local trips, up to 52 miles worth. The RAV4 GR Sport is offered only as a plug-in; sportiness on the road meets ultimate frugalness at the pump. Not to mention 324 total horsepower.

Will 2026 beat 2025's jaw-dropping sales numbers? That's too early to tell, but it's probably safe to say that Toyota's small SUV will most likely remain their volume champ.
