SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- First, it was heavy downpours, and now the Santa Ana winds are wreaking havoc across the Southland.
The powerful gusts knocked down trees and power lines on Monday.
In Sylmar, a family was sound asleep when a large branch tore through their roof.
After dark in Sylmar, the Santa Ana winds were still howling.
It took just one angry gust to send a tree crashing onto Jezebel White's home.
Video from the scene shows the tree's entire root exposed.
"It was huge, like, it's huge," White said. "It literally sounded like ripping."

Surveillance video shows the moment the tree toppled onto the house. It happened on Monday while everyone was sleeping.
Branches tore through the ceiling and battered one of the bedrooms.
"My brother jumped out of bed because it was literally six to five feet away from hitting him," White said.
White's whole family has spent hours cleaning up the mess.
"I was honestly pretty flabbergasted by how much, how much debris is everywhere," Christian Lozano said. " There's just branches everywhere. They keep coming out."
White's family says they will continue staying in the home while they sort out repairs with insurance.
"I'm just genuinely thankful it didn't hurt anyone. It was just material things that got broken and not an actual person," White said.
The gusty winds were destructive all day.
In Orange County, a palm tree landed on a Tesla, injuring at least one person inside.
In Moorpark, California Highway Patrol shut down both directions of SR-118 for more than eight hours after trees fell onto power lines.
The risk continues with more Santa Ana winds blowing in on Tuesday.
