Crews battle brush fire on hillside in Burbank; evacuation orders in place for nearby businesses

BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- Fire crews are battling a brush fire on the hillside above Burbank, triggering evacuation orders for some nearby businesses.

The Walnut Fire first broke out in the 1500 block of E. Walnut Avenue near DeBell Golf Club and Wildwood Canyon Park on Saturday afternoon. In the latest update, crews said the fire was approximately 20 acres.

A crash was reproted nearby at 1200 E. Harvard Road about three minutes before the fire was first reported. It's unclear if the crash sparked the fire or if there is any connection.

Video from the nearby neighborhood shows smoke billowing into the air.

According to the city of Burbank, evacuation orders are in place for DeBell Restaurant and Golf Course and Stough Canyon Nature Center. Hiking trails are closed until further notice, and the Starlight Bowl concert scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.

The Burbank Police Department told Eyewitness News a shelter-in-place has been issued for nearby residents but did not provide specifics about the location.
