TEL AVIV, Israel (KABC) -- Life has shifted dramatically for a former Los Angeles resident now living in Tel Aviv, who says she has been moving from bomb shelter to bomb shelter as Iran retaliates against Israel.
Eve Karlin, who lived in West Hollywood for nearly a decade, moved to Israel last year following the October 7 terrorist attacks in 2023.
She described the realities of living in an active war zone as the conflict involving the U.S., Israel and Iran stretches into its second week.
"This was my dream to live in Israel. My absolute dream," she told Eyewitness News. "I'm happiest in Israel. It's my home. It's where I feel I belong."
Karlin relocated to Tel Aviv to launch a health and wellness business, but said the country has been under constant threat since she arrived.
As missile alerts sound across the region, she relies on Israel's siren system and the widespread availability of bomb shelters.
"We have a siren system, so we get alerts when missiles are coming, and we have the bomb shelters everywhere," Karlin said. "So because of that, I do feel as safe as I could be in a war zone."
Karlin has been documenting her experiences on social media, including routine evacuations.
"This is what it's like when there's a siren, we all come down here to an empty flat. At least there's cute dogs," she narrated in one video.
She said she prays for peace each time she seeks shelter, hoping the conflict ultimately leads to a better future for the people of Iran as well.
Despite the danger, Karlin said she has no plans to leave Israel.
"When things get scary you stay you don't run away," she said.
Karlin said she remains encouraged by the support of cousins and friends who live nearby.
