MORRISON, Colo. (KABC) -- ScHoolboy Q, a 27-year-old rapper from South Los Angeles, was in a vehicle that was fired on after a concert at the popular Red Rocks outdoor amphitheater in Colorado, police said, but he was not injured.
Denver police shut down Red Rocks after shots were fired in the parking lot around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, searching all cars leaving the venue. Three people in Q's SUV were hurt, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
It's not yet clear whether Q was targeted, investigators said, but they do not believe the shooting was random. No one has been arrested.
Q tweeted on Friday morning to assure fans that he was OK.
The rap concert drew about 4,500 people and featured artists like Q, Nas and Flying Lotus and benefited several groups, including the Gang Rescue and Support Project of Denver.
Five people, including Q, were in a white SUV when a gunman armed with a rifle opened fire. They reported to police that they continued to drive to a Denver intersection about 15 miles away in search of a hospital.
The SUV was eventually stopped by Denver police and the victims were taken to a hospital, according to Jacki Kelley, a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Q and another uninjured person were briefly handcuffed while police determined the situation, Kelley said, but no one in the vehicle was arrested.
Q, whose real name is Quincy Hanley, is a rising star in the hip-hop world. His most recent album "Oxymoron" opened at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 earlier this year, and he is nominated for best new artist at the 2014 BET Awards on June 29.
He and Kendrick Lamar, who was nominated for seven Grammys this year, are members of Black Hippy.
