SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was shot and killed in San Bernardino after attempting to follow the suspect who had robbed and assaulted him, according to authorities.

San Bernardino police responded to a shooting in the 1300 block of West Poplar Avenue at about 8:40 p.m. on Monday.

When officers arrived, they said 19-year-old Christian Morales of Colton was found with gunshot wounds in a vehicle.

Morales was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Police said Morales was robbed and assaulted in Lytle Creek Park and tried to follow the suspect vehicle when he was shot.

Authorities did not provide a description of the suspect vehicle.
