NorCal woman wins big in Vegas with same roulette bet every 10 years on birthday

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Northern California woman beat the odds and had a lucky moment at the Aria Casino in Las Vegas on her 36th birthday.

Leslie Sategna placed a $1,000 bet on the number 16 and ended up winning $35,000. The moment was special for her because she had been planning it for 10 years - and it was the third time she'd won doing the same bet.

"I was nervous and excited and kind of kept telling myself all day, 'You're not going to win.' I saw that it was in 16 and the whole place just erupted. It was insane," she said.

It all started on her 16th birthday when she asked her father, who went to Vegas, to place a $10 roulette bet on the number 16 at midnight on Sept. 16. He won.

Then on her 26th birthday, she went to Vegas, decided to place a $10 bet on the number 16 at midnight and won again.

So on her 36th birthday, 20 of her closes friends and family flew in from across the country and shared in her memorable moment.

"We all got champagne and decided we were coming back on my 46th, so I'm putting $10,000 aside and having a great weekend with my friends. Anything that's left over is going in my kid's college fund," she said.

The family is planning their next trip 10 years from now with a $10,000 bet.
