King James for president?
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- SpringHill Entertainment co-founder andLeBron James' confidant Maverick Carter sat down with ESPN's Cari Champion at a live presentation of her "Be Honest" podcast at the ninth annual espnW: Women + Sports Summit to discuss James' game beyond the confines of Staples Center.
Carter, a childhood friend of James who went on to become the perennial NBA All-Star's business manager, was asked by ESPN reporter Michele Steele during the question-and-answer portion of the presentation if James would eventually follow any political pursuits, possibly visiting the White House as an elected official.
"You never know what time will tell," Carter replied. "Right now, [James] is focused on being a great basketball player."
"However, I've never actually sat down and had the conversations with him about it," Carter added. "I don't see him focusing on it right now. But who knows what's in the future. [James] is 33 now, and he'll be 34 in December, so who knows how much longer he's going to play basketball. So, you never know. You never know what's next with that guy."
James, who signed with theLos Angeles Lakers in July after bringing the Cleveland Cavalierstheir first NBA championship in 2016, founded SpringHill in 2017 in an effort to create compelling stories for television, features and digital platforms. The media group is another example of how the basketball great, who opened the free "I Promise" school in Akron, Ohio, this summer, is evolving his personal brand. Is it possible that politics will be another avenue James will pursuit?
