GRAND TERRACE, Calif. (KABC) -- Interstate 215 will be closed between San Bernardino and Riverside counties from 10 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday for work on a railroad bridge. The closure is called the "I-215 Summer Sting" by Caltrans officials.

All lanes of the 215 will be closed in both directions in the Grand Terrace/Highgrove area between Iowa Avenue and Barton Road.

Southbound drivers will be routed off the freeway at Barton, down La Cadena and returning to the freeway at the La Cadena on-ramp. Northbound drivers will be routed off the freeway at Iowa Avenue and back on at Barton.

Caltrans recommends I-10, I-15 and State Route 60 as alternate routes.

Additional freeway shutdowns are planned for the weekends of September 12-13 and September 19-20.

Crews are finishing a railroad bridge, part of the $170 million I-215 Bi-County Project intended to expand the gateway artery between Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The new bridge will replace an older one farther north on the freeway in Grand Terrace.
