Mom's post about daughter's school dress code violation goes viral
Mom's post about daughter's school dress code violation goes viral - Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4:30pm on September 13, 2017.

JOPLIN, Mo. -- There's a controversy brewing in Missouri over what a teenage girl wore to school.

Her mom posted the photo on Facebook after her daughter was called to the principal's office. The 17-year-old student is seen wearing jeans, a blouse and boots.

The teen says somehow her outfit not only earned her a dress code violation but brought on public body-shaming.

Kelsey Anderson has retained a lawyer and said that, according to a teacher, she was written up for the outfit because she is too "busty."

Kelsey said the same teacher told her that "plus-sized women" need to shop at stores that sell larger clothing.

Mom's post on Facebook about the matter has gone viral.

She said the incident occurred in front of the class and that Kelsey was embarrassed and mortified.

The school district is investigating and says it does not consider staff comments "about students' bodies appropriate."
