The Transportation Security Administration is tacking on a few bucks to its September 11th security fee. The additional fee takes effect Monday.

Travelers should expect to pay $5.60 each way for all flights. Those with layovers longer than four hours in the U.S. or 12 hours internationally can expect to pay the fee twice.

Previously, the fee was $2.50 for a non-stop flight and $5 for a connecting flight.

The increase is part of a budget deal approved by Congress to reduce the federal deficit.

"In accordance with Federal Law, the revenue generated from the security fee will be deposited in the general fund of the Treasury. The revenue is to be used to offset TSA costs for providing civil aviation security services, after stipulated amounts are applied to reduction of the federal deficit," according to the TSA website.
