Artificial turf stolen from Tujunga Little League's field replaced

TUJUNGA, Calif. (KABC) -- The youngest members of the Tujunga Little League finally have a field to call their own thanks to generous donations.

"This field is really awesome," said T-ball player Dylan Dennis. "I'm glad they bought back a nice, new soft field for us."

A month ago, the league suffered a real setback when someone stole the artificial turf from the area being used for T-ball. Police haven't caught the thieves.

A company called Artificial Grass Liquidators heard about the theft and wanted to help. The company donated and installed the replacement turf free of charge.

The replacement turf would have cost the Tujunga Little League about $5,000.

"It's good to see how many people out there are giving and want to help the community, and help these kids," said Tujunga Little League President Bill Mayes.

While there's a deal to trade him, Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon came out to join Wednesday afternoon's celebration. He even spent some time playing ball with the kids.

"It's tough, but, you know, I'm glad I could come out here and just have fun with them," Gordon said.

The kids were content to just run around on the new turf. In a few months, they'll play their first game. The regular season starts in March.
