CHINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities arrested a man after they said he assaulted a teenage girl with a sword and stuffed a puppy inside a zipped bag in Chino on Sunday.

Deputies said they responded to a stabbing near the intersection of Monte Vista and Francis avenues at about 12:30 p.m.

When they arrived at the scene, deputies said they found a 19-year-old woman who sustained abrasions to her neck and knee. The teen told authorities that the neck wound was caused when 49-year-old Vincente Lopez pressed the pointed tip of a sword into her neck. She also told deputies the abrasion on her knee was caused by Lopez biting her.

Deputies said Lopez was arrested after a two-and-a-half-foot-long sword was located in his bedroom.

While deputies were inside Lopez's bedroom, they said a small black bag began to move. Deputies said when they opened the completely zipped bag, a small husky puppy was found stuffed inside.

The bag had a vinyl lining and did not allow for appropriate air flow for the puppy, according to deputies.

Officials stated the husky was visibly limp and had shallow breathing. The puppy was taken to the veterinarian for treatment.

Authorities said Lopez was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and animal cruelty. He was taken to the West Valley Detention Center and his bail was set at $50,000.

Lopez was scheduled to be arraigned in Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday.
