BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (KABC) -- The spring storm brought a fresh coat of snow to the local mountain communities, creating a winter-like day in the middle of May.

For people visiting Big Bear, it was the snow day they've been waiting for.

"It's my first time seeing snow fall. So I'm pretty excited right now about it," said Mia Leyva from Newport Beach.

Leyva never thought she would see snow in spring.

For Big Bear residents, the snow may be pretty but it's not enough to boost business. And this year was tough.

"We had people out the door. It was really crazy. We'd have at least six people staffed in here all day. Now it's about one because the business has gone down so much" said Samantha Clasen, a local barista.

For some people heading up the mountain, they like what they see.

"They've never seen the snow. My wife's never seen it either. Like I said, this definitely beats Huntington Beach, California weather," said Brian Keith.

The roads leading up to Big Bear were clear Friday morning, but commuters were advised to carry chains just in case temperatures drop and create icy roads.
