WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Three armed suspects sparked an intense search in West Hollywood as law enforcement officials urged residents to lock their homes Monday evening.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said they were searching the area near the Melrose District, urging people to avoid La Cienega and San Vicente boulevards.

Authorities could be heard asking residents to lock their doors and windows as they conducted a search that involved sheriff's deputies on the ground, K9s and a helicopter crew.

The men alleged robbed two people near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Hilldale Avenue around 9:30 p.m., sheriff's deputies said, pistol-whipping one of the victims.

The suspects fled toward the area around Melrose Avenue between San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards.

"We caught one of the men but the other two are still outstanding," Lt. Vance Duffy said.

The name of the suspect in custody was not immediately released.
